My current project
A Story Beyond (Working Title)
A Story Beyond is a puzzle RPG inspired by games such as Harvest Moon on the Nintendo DS Lite. The game tells an atmospheric escape story in which the player controls a protagonist attempting to break free from captivity. Throughout the journey, the player explores multiple thematically distinct worlds, ranging from ancient temples and medieval scholar cities to steampunk machine halls and mystical forests with ruined temples.
The gameplay blends several genres, including survival, escape room mechanics, farming elements, RPG systems, and fantasy aspects, creating a genre-crossing experience where nothing is quite as it seems. While players are given the illusion of choice through dialogue options and smaller decisions, the overarching narrative path of the main campaign remains consistent.
A strong narrative focus drives the experience, gradually revealing the true identity of the protagonist. The story leaves room for interpretation, suggesting that the character may be trapped either in a trauma-induced simulation or under a magical curse that manifests fragmented memories across different worlds. Survival and farming mechanics require players to gather resources, cultivate fields, cook, and trade in each world to progress and endure alongside the puzzle elements.
The visual style is inspired by the 2D aesthetic of classic handheld titles, featuring soft colors and subtle visual effects, including optional flickering during emotionally significant story moments that briefly shift the player into alternate worlds.
The project is currently being developed as a side project together with a close friend. At the moment, I am mainly working on level maps and concept art, defining the visual language, world structure, and overall atmosphere of the game.
