My Cosplay Journey

I have been actively cosplaying for almost ten years, and during this time I have created more than 60 different costumes. Many of these are entirely self-made, from the first plan to the final stitch. Sewing has been a part of my life since I was 13 years old, and over the years I have developed strong technical skills with a sewing machine, as well as a deep understanding of fabrics, patterns, and construction techniques.

My journey into cosplay began with a visit to Gamescom. The creativity, craftsmanship, and sheer passion I encountered there left a lasting impression on me. I was completely overwhelmed—in the best possible way—and knew instantly that this was something I wanted to be a part of. What started as inspiration quickly turned into a long-term creative pursuit.

Cosplay has allowed me to continuously challenge myself, learn new skills, and grow both artistically and technically. Each project teaches me something new, whether it’s problem-solving, time management, or refining my craftsmanship. For me, cosplay is more than just wearing a costume—it is a way to bring characters to life, tell stories visually, and constantly push my creative boundaries.

What fascinates me most about cosplay is something many people never get to see: the countless skills required to create what ultimately appears in a single photograph. Behind every finished image is a complex creative process that goes far beyond the costume itself.

As a cosplayer, you become a one-woman army. You are responsible for designing and creating the costume, but also for styling wigs, applying makeup, and understanding how all these elements work together. You need to know how to move in front of the camera, how to use body language, facial expressions, and gestures to truly embody a character. Every pose, every glance, and every detail contributes to the final result.

Cosplay combines craftsmanship, performance, and visual storytelling. It requires patience, problem-solving, and a constant willingness to learn and improve. Each project pushes me to step outside my comfort zone and refine my skills, both technically and artistically.

When all these gears start turning together—costume, styling, expression, and camera work—that is when the most powerful moments are created. Those are the moments where a character truly comes to life, and where all the hard work behind the scenes becomes visible in a single, striking image.

Through cosplay, I taught myself how to use Photoshop entirely on my own. I wanted to be able to handle every aspect of my work independently and was genuinely curious to learn the tools behind image editing. Without taking any courses or formal training, I experimented, practiced, and continuously challenged myself. Over the years, my edits improved step by step. You can find an example of my edited work below.

Even though I could talk about cosplay for hours, I will keep this short. I am deeply grateful for everything this hobby has taught me and for the many experiences it has allowed me to gain over the years. Cosplay has shaped my creativity, my skills, and my way of expressing myself more than I ever expected.

Although I no longer have as much time for this hobby as I once did, I still return to it whenever I can. Every project reminds me why I fell in love with cosplay in the first place. It continues to be a meaningful creative outlet that I truly enjoy, no matter how busy life becomes.
